****This is a very nice Japanese hand painted fan, complete with the original box. This piece was obtained from a WW2 Veteran who spent time in Japan during the occupation years, and brought this item back into the US. It shows a peacock with ships on the water, and a very nice silver trim along the tip of the black fan. The red tassel is very nice, and shows no signs of wear. The box does have more wear, with the lid showing an end tab with both corners torn, and a tab missing entirely. Japanese characters are present on the bottom of the box, written in pencil. The fan measures approximately 17 inches open. ****
