  • Condition: This beautiful set comes as shown. The larger fan measures about 13 inches, the smaller fan measures about 8 inches. The box is nice and sturdy and is about 15 inches long. These were purchased in Japan many decades ago. They are of high quality (the exact material unknown). This set is of great quality and you will be very happy! This particular Sensu (Japanese Folding Fan) seems to be a Hi-ougi fan. Otherwise known as the court fan, it is mainly a symbol of status. It is made from slats of cypress wood bound together with stitches of silk. This fan developed from officials writing on strips of wood due to the scarcity of paper; they were originally more like a notebook than a fan. The Kawahori-sen is a similar fan, which developed from the Hi-ougi, but is made with paper instead.Please contact me with any questions your might have before purchase. Serious bidders only.
