Description
Mata Ortiz BM SignedCasas Grandes Pueblo Pottery Olla, Folk Art Pot with Polychrome Paquime Design. This Mexican folk art pot is in good condition with 4 scratches, one chip & one spot, all located on the widest part of the body of the pot, shown in the last four photos. No other chips, cracks or repairs. It is signed on the bottom: BM. I do not know the maker. This traditional design of Paquime pottery was discovered by American archeologist Charles C. Di Peso in the Casas Grandes pueblo ruins. It's a stunning polychrome pot that stands 4 1/2" high, 6" at its widest and the mouth is 3" across. This traditional Ramos Polychrome designed olla is from the town of Mata Ortiz and the Casas Grande Valley. Mata Ortiz pottery is inspired by the Pueblo potters of the American Southwest & totally hand made. This pot was hand formed from local clay & hand painted with hair brushes using natural mineral pigments. It was hand polished with stone for a high shine. Mata Ortiz pottery is Mexico's greatest example of fine ceramics & contemporary folk art. This polychrome Mata Ortiz olla is sure to please any Southwest pueblo pottery or Mexican folk art collector. It is simply beautiful. Displays well.
