Description:
A nice size glazed and sgraffito decorated redware Soup mug. The mug has a flat circular base with an extended short foot and flared rounded sides rising to a plain rim. The mug is decorated with a sgraffito design consisting flowers having black and brown centers and red petals. The flowers are evenly distributed on a yellow colored background. The inside of the mug is glazed and has a brown coloring while the base, which is marked and dated by the maker is unglazed and displays the color of unglazed redware. The mug has an ear shaped applied handle. The colors and style of decoration is very much in the Pennsylvania Dutch style common in southeastern Pennsylvania specifically in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Lancaster counties. The mug is marked Breininger Pottery abd dated June 18, 2009. A beautiful piece of modern redware to add to your collection. Measures ~3 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~4 3/8" in diameter at the, ~6" at its widest including the handle, and is ~3" high. The piece weighs a little over 15 ounces.

Condition:
Mug is in excellent condition with no cracks, repairs, hairlines, or crazing to the glaze. The mug has a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots. However, this mug has a minimum number of these, which are hardly noticeable and do not interfere with its beauty or quality.
